May 2017 will see the official launch of Pinnon Safari Lodge, an independently owned and managed safari lodge located in the Kafue National Park, Zambia.

Situated on the banks of the Kafue River and surrounded by the most stunning variety of birds and wildlife, Pinnon Lodges offers an authentically wild safari experience. The aim of Pinnon Lodges is to provide guests with an intimate, personal and affordable safari experience, each of the unique tented chalets have been built using locally sourced materials, ensuring that guests enjoy an authentic Zambian experience. They are also each equipped with a stone walled en-suite bathroom, queen sized beds and a Kafue riverside view which can be enjoyed from each chalets private verandah.

May 2017 will see the completion of all four individually designed, thatch tented chalets, which will accommodate up to eights guests in total.  The first two chalets that have already been completed and accommodating guests are The Kingfisher and Wagtail, both named after a specific bird, which frequented the area during the build.

The Kingfisher is perfect for couples looking for a romantic escape as water surrounds it on three sides.  Bird watching from this chalet is the best on site and hippos often also relax on a sand bank just 30metres from the veranda. The Wagtail faces west across the river and provides a fantastic spot to sip a sundowner watching the sunset.

There is a relaxed restaurant and bar and all guests enjoy full board during their stay. The camp is focused on sustainability and generates its power through solar power.

Pinnon Lodges expert guides take guests on twice-daily game drives in the vast Kafue National Park, famed for being the oldest National Park in Zambia and one of the largest in all of Africa. Largely untouched by development, the Kafue National Park offers travellers a unique and pristine wilderness. There is an abundance of wildlife including Big Cats, Elephants, Hippos, Giraffes.

The Kafue is also a great place to see the more unusual game species and rare antelope species such as: Oribi, Blue Wildebeest, Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest, Roan, Sitatunga, Puku, Red Lechwe, Defassa Waterbuck, Sable, Reedbuck, Eland and the diminutive Yellow-Backed Duiker. There are also more than 470 species of birds that have been recorded in the Kafue.

Owned and run by British husband and wife team Lyndon and Ruth Pinches. Lyndon Pinches commented “Wildlife conservation is at the heart of the development of Pinnon Lodges, having both previously worked for an anti-poaching NGO in Malawi. In 2015 we decided to set up Pinnon Lodges to assist and protect wildlife within the Kafue National Park whilst at the same time offering an affordable safari experience for travellers, as we believe that nature should be available to all, not just the wealthy few.  As soon as possible we hope to finance anti-poaching efforts in Kafue National Park with profits earned from Pinnon Lodges.
